IN PRAISE OF HOUNDSTOOTH: DESIGNERS REINVENTING TWEED

Stay on trend, with a touch of tweed and other countrified traditional fabrics.

June 13, 2018

Houndstooth and other countrified traditional fabrics such as tweed are ubiquitous once again. With such old-school fabrics, there could be a risk of looking a little staid. But not if you oversize it such as Italian hothouse, Meridiani, who has stores around the world, has for its 2018 collection. Then toss in a few modern touches.

Houndstooth has a heritage and character to it – it speaks to England as well as the countryside so the trick is to use it in modern ways and give it a slightly different look and shape from its forebears.

Houndstooth is usually something you see on classic hunter’s jackets in heavy wool yet today’s patterns for furnishings are softer in overscale patterns that make the look have a more sleek appearance and silhouette overall.

Interiors are intended to reinvent and reintroduce how we see classic shapes, so we think the raft of versions of the iconic houndstooth is a fabulous thing, giving people plenty of choices depending on their personal style. Meridiani available at Studio Cavit, www.studiocavit.com
